The Monte Rite is a 2,183 meter high mountain in the Dolomites in the province of Belluno in Italy .

The summit of Passo Cibiana (1,530 m), the connection from Val di Zoldo to the Valle del Boite , can be reached in an easy mountain hike via a road that is closed to private vehicles. An Italian fortress from the First World War stands on the summit with an excellent panoramic view of the Dolomites . The Forte di Monte Rite was built in 1911. The armament consisted of four type 149 / A guns in rotating 14 cm thick armored domes. The fortress also had two type 149 / G guns and two type 75 / A cannons. Machine guns were used to secure the facility. In 1917 the facility was conquered by Austrian troops without a fight and in 1918, shortly before the end of the war, it was partially blown up when they withdrew. An 8 km long former military road leads from Passo Cibiana to the summit fortress. Only cyclists and licensed jeep taxis are allowed to drive on the road.

The former fort now houses the Mountain Museum Dolomites . This museum was opened in 2002 by the extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner and tells the story of the development of the Dolomites using a gallery of Dolomite images.
