The Passo Vezzena is a 1417 m slm high mountain pass on the Lavarone plateau in the province of Trento .
history
The Vezzena Pass is already shown on maps from the late Middle Ages.
During the Mountain War of 1915–1918 , the pass was located in the immediate vicinity of the front between the Verle plant to the north of the pass and the Col Basson, which was expanded to the south, until the Austro-Hungarian South Tyrol offensive in May 1916 .
Location and surroundings
The pass road, Strada Statale SS 349 or SP 349, leads from Lavarone over the pass at the Rifugio Vezzena to Asiago . The actual top of the pass is more like a plateau than a pronounced pass, and there are only very few hairpin bends to overcome on the entire route from Lavarone to Asiago .
At the top of the pass, the Erzherzog-Eugen- Strasse , a former military road that is closed to motor vehicles, leads north . The Strada provinciale SP 9 leads south to Lusern . The Kaiserjägerstraße begins at the SS 349 a good 2 km west of the pass .
Near the top of the pass are formerly Austrian barrages , to the north the Verle plant and, near the Cima Vezzena ( 1908 m slm ), the Vezzena post , and the Lusern plant south of the top of the pass . The Italian "counterparts" Forte Monte Verena and Forte Campolongo, which are further to the east, are easier to reach from the Asiago direction.
height
According to the map of the Italian portal Cartografico Nazionale , the pass height is at 1417 m slm , the sign on site only indicates 1402 m slm .
