The Passo di Giau (Beech Stone- Ladin Jou de Giau , Ampezzan-Ladin El Jou ) is a 2236 m slm high mountain pass in the Italian province of Belluno . From Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Valle del Boite it leads southeast of the lower Falzarego into the valley of Buchenstein (it. Livinallongo , Lad. Fodom) and to Selva di Cadore . The southern ascent from Selva di Cadore (distance to the top of the pass 9.5 km at 849 meters above sea level) is more scenic than the ascent from the north from Pocòl (distance to the top of the pass 10.7 km at 780 meters above sea level), as it is more forested. The average gradient is approx. 9.4% (max. 14%) on the south side. If the weather conditions allow, the pass road is also open in winter.
From the top of the pass there are beautiful panoramic views on both sides, but not particularly rewarding hiking trails.
