The Passo della Mauria is a mountain pass in Italy that rises to an altitude of 1298 m slm . The road SS 52 leads with a maximum gradient of 10% from Lozzo di Cadore ( Veneto region ) east to Forni di Sopra and on to Ampezzo ( Friuli-Venezia Giulia region ). In normal weather conditions there is no winter closure. There is an inn at the top of the pass. Although it is an important east-west connection and the route is very popular with motorcyclists, the road is not too wide.
The pass is touched by the Dolomiten-Höhenweg 6 ( path of silence ), which leads through the southern Carnic Alps (also called Friulian Dolomites ) and thus mostly through lonely mountainous terrain. The mountain groups Terza and Bivera extend north of the pass, south the mountain groups Cridola and Monfalconi , the latter with the landmark of the Friulian Dolomites, the free-standing rock needle Campanile di Val Montanaia . An easy hike leads from the top of the pass through extensive forests south to the Rifugio Giàf ( 1400 m , in an impressive location). From the top of the pass, a gravel road (driving ban) from the time of the First World War also leads to the ruins of an Italian fortress on Monte Miaron . Not far south of the top of the pass are the sources of the Tagliamento .
