Pouilly-en-Auxois is a French commune with 1,481 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Côte-d'Or in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Beaune and the canton of Arnay-le-Duc (until 2015: canton of Pouilly-en-Auxois ).
geography
Pouilly-en-Auxois is about 40 kilometers west-southwest of Dijon on the Canal de Bourgogne . Pouilly-en-Auxois is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bellenot-sous-Pouilly in the north, Civry-en-Montagne in the northeast, Créancey in the east and southeast, Meilly-sur-Rouvres in the south and Thoisy-le-Désert in the west.
The motorway triangle of Autoroute A6 and Autoroute A38 is located in the municipality .
history
The place was initially built on the Saint-Pierre mountain around the earlier, no longer existing castle. The Notre-Dame Trouvée chapel is still located there today. In the 16th century the place was rebuilt deeper in the valley. Later, in 1868, the current Saint-Pierre church was built in the new location.
