Joseph de Pesquidoux

Pierre Édouard Marie Joseph Dubosc, Comte de Pesquidoux (born December 13, 1869 in Savigny-lès-Beaune , † March 17, 1946 in Le Houga ) was a French writer and member of the Académie française .

Life

Joseph de Pesquidoux was born in 1869 as the son of the writer Léonce Dubosc de Pesquidoux (1829-1900) and Olga de Beuverand de La Loyère. After attending school, Pesquidoux did his military service with the 9th Cavalry Regiment in Auch . After he had been promoted to Maréchal-des-logis , his father asked him to return to take over the family estate of Château de Pesquidoux. This also influenced his literary work: Pesquidoux was mainly concerned with rural life.

In 1896 he married Thérèse d'Acher de Montgascon (1875–1961), a diplomat's daughter, with whom he had several children. During the German occupation of France, Pesquidoux was a member of the National Council of the Vichy regime .

honors and awards

Pesquidoux was an officer in the Legion of Honor and received the Croix de guerre 1914–1918 . In 1927 he received the "Grand prix de littérature" from the Académie française , of which he became a member in 1936. In 1938 he also became a member of the Académie des Jeux floraux . From 1937 to 1945 he was President of the Archaeological Society of the Département Gers .
