Ebersbach-Neugersdorf is a small town in Saxony , which was formed on January 1, 2011 from the merger of the neighboring towns of Ebersbach / Sa. and Neugersdorf came into being. A merger of the two municipalities, which were first mentioned in a document in 1306 and were given city rights in 1925 and 1924, had already been sought in 1925, but was not realized.
The city, located in the Lausitzer Bergland in southern Upper Lusatia on the border with the Czech Republic , has around 12,000 inhabitants and is the fifth largest city in the Görlitz district after Görlitz , Zittau , Weißwasser and Löbau . Two of the three Spree springs that gave the city the nickname Spreequellstadt are located in the 20.42 square kilometer municipal area .

The city lies halfway between Bautzen and Zittau along the German-Czech border in the Lusatian mountains . While the Ebersbach city center at 365 m above sea level. NN , the highest points are on the Hutungsberg (474 m) and the Schlechteberg (485 m).
Neighboring communities
Neighboring communities are the city of Neusalza-Spremberg in the northwest, Kottmar in the north and northeast, Leutersdorf in the southeast and the city of Seifhennersdorf in the south. On the Czech side, the towns of Jiříkov (Georgswalde) in the west and Rumburk (Rumburg) in the south-west border on Ebersbach-Neugersdorf.

Ebersbach-Neugersdorf consists of the two districts of Ebersbach / Sa. and Neugersdorf and is divided into further districts, u. a. in Oberland, Haine , Spreedorf , Neue Sorge and Hempel.
history
The two eponymous places were first mentioned in a document in May 1306. The location on the border favored the influx of Bohemian exiles from the 17th century , which brought population growth to both places. Linen weaving was an important source of income early on and developed into a flourishing textile industry in the 19th century. The need for workers ensured further growth, so that Neugersdorf on December 15, 1924 and Ebersbach on September 5, 1925 received city rights.
On November 4th 2010 the mayor of Neugersdorf (Verena Hergenröder) and the mayor of Ebersbach / Sa. (Bernd Noack) the agreement on the unification of the cities of Ebersbach / Sa. and Neugersdorf to the new Spree source town Ebersbach-Neugersdorf on January 1, 2011. On March 26, 2012 the city council voted on the adoption of a newly created coat of arms, which contains the heraldic animals of the two current districts, the boar and the crane. The coat of arms was created after a competition to which 70 proposals from 58 citizens were submitted.

Mayor of Ebersbach-Neugersdorf is Verena Hergenröder (independent).
In the mayoral election on March 27, 2011, none of the candidates could achieve an absolute majority, so that a new election took place on April 10, in which a simple majority was sufficient.
Of the 11,778 eligible voters, 6,394 exercised their right to vote. Of these, 3,348 voters voted for the former mayor of Neugersdorf, Verena Hergenröder (independent) and 3004 voters for the former mayor of Ebersbach, Bernd Noack (CDU). 42 votes were invalid. The business administration graduate David Andrick (Die Linke) withdrew his candidacy after the election on March 27, 2011.
Town twinning
The city took over the partnerships of its predecessors. Specifically, these are the French municipality of Bourg-lès-Valence , the town of Ebersbach an der Fils in Baden-Württemberg, the municipality of Gründau in Hesse, the neighboring Czech town of Jiříkov (Georgswalde) and the Polish town of Krapkowice (Krappitz) .
Furthermore, under Mayor Verena Hergenröder, Ebersbach-Neugersdorf has been a member of the communal cross-border German-Czech association Fünfgemeinde since November 4, 2011 . This association was set up in Schluckenau on October 19, 2000 in the interests of close cooperation between the municipalities and their citizens in the southern Upper Lusatia / Schluckenauer Zipfel border region.

Unlike in Zittau and Löbau, there is no city traffic in Ebersbach-Neugersdorf. The place is connected to the regional transport operated by the Dreiländereck motor vehicle with the following bus routes:

Rail transport
The railway line Oberoderwitz – Wilthen of the South Lusatian Railway runs through Ebersbach-Neugersdorf on the Dresden - Bischofswerda - Zittau (- Liberec ) route . There is a train station in the Ebersbach district and there is also a stop in the Neugersdorf district . Both the Trilex Express line TLX2 (Dresden - Zittau (- Liberec)) and the regional Trilex TL61 (Dresden - Zittau) stop at both Ebersbach-Neugersdorfer train stations . On the north side of the Ebersbach station, the railway line Ebersbach – Löbau , which is not used according to the schedule, branches off and on the south side, towards the Neugersdorf stop, the Bakov nad Jizerou – Ebersbach line to Rumburk in the Czech Republic.
Road traffic
The federal highway 96 and the state highway 148 run through the city . Ebersbach-Neugersdorf does not have its own motorway connection. The closest motorway connections to the A4 Aachen – Görlitz are in Weißenberg and Bautzen-Ost .

The Löbauer local edition of the Sächsische Zeitung appears in Ebersbach-Neugersdorf, which contains a Oberland local page set up for the Ebersbach-Neugersdorf region .
