Bourg-lès-Valence is a French commune in the department of Drôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The inhabitants of the parish are called Bourcains .
geography
Bourg-lès-Valence is located immediately north of Valence , the capital of the Drôme department. The settlement area of Valence has grown closely together with that of Bourg-lès-Valence and other suburban communities. This metropolitan area has a total of over 120,000 inhabitants. To the west, the municipality of Bourg-lès-Valence borders the Rhone . On the other side of the river is the Ardèche department with the commune of Châteaubourg .
history
The medieval castle Confolens at the confluence of the Isère and the Rhone rivers fell victim to spatial planning measures in 1960/65 in connection with the construction of a hydroelectric power station .

With 19,975 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Bourg-lès-Valence is one of the largest municipalities in the Drôme department. In 1962 the number of residents was 10,856, and the number has been increasing since then. Strong growth was recorded especially in the 1970s.
Attractions
- The former parish church of St-Pierre de Bourg-lès-Valence , administered by canons, was one of the first places of worship of Valentinois. The building served the bishops as a burial place, was destroyed during the Huguenot Wars in 1597, rebuilt several times and underwent extensive changes in the 19th and 20th centuries.
- The bishop's palace, known as Château du Valentin , dates back to 1668.
- Château de Champrousset
- The former cartoucherie (German ammunition factory) houses a center for animation film with production studios and various institutions in this branch under the name Cour des Images .
