Saint-Donat-sur-l'Herbasse is a French municipality with 4195 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Drôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Valence and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Drôme des collines .

Saint-Donat-sur-l'Herbasse is located on the small river Herbasse , a tributary of the Isère . Saint-Donat-sur-l'Herbasse is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Rattières in the north, Charmes-sur-l'Herbasse in the north-east, Margès in the east and north-east, Peyrins in the south-east, Saint-Bardoux in the south, Clérieux in the south-west, Marsaz in the West and Bren to the northwest.
history
The place Jovincieu already indicates that it housed a sanctuary of Iovis . In the Gallo-Roman village, Corbus, Bishop of Grenoble, took refuge from the Saracens in 732. This is how the relics of St. Donatus came to Jovincieu. From the 13th century, the saint's name became a toponym.
