Marches is a French commune in the north of the department of Drôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

history

Marches was first mentioned in 924 as Villa Marcha . In the late Middle Ages, the municipality as well as the entire surrounding area at the confluence of the Isère in the Rhone belonged to the Duchy of Valentinois . In the 14th century the area was passed on to the Lords of Taulignan .

population

With 836 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Marches is one of the smaller communities in the Drôme department. In the 1962 census, 409 residents were counted. In the 1960s and 1970s the population increased only relatively weakly, but since the 1980s it has grown faster.
