At that time the village belonged to the diocese of Valence .

Great changes took place in the 19th century, parts of the old fortifications were destroyed. In 1850 Alixan lost part of the municipality to Saint-Marcel-lès-Valence.

Today Alixan consists of three rings, in the middle of which are the 12th century church of Saint-Didier and the courtyard of the castle. The castle has undergone major changes over time and is now home to the Mairie.
