Hauterives is a French commune with 1,895 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the north of the department Drôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
The municipality is located in the valley of the Galaure , a left tributary of the Rhone . Valence is around 50 km away, Lyon 80 km and Grenoble 70 km.
Palais Idéal in Hauterives
Hauterives became famous for the monuments of the Palais Idéal and his own tomb, built between 1879 and 1922 by Ferdinand Cheval , a French postman , which are visited by over 150,000 visitors every year.
