Barcelonne is a French municipality with 349 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Drôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the canton of Crest .
geography
Barcelonne is located at the foot of the Vercors on the eastern edge of the Rhône valley , 100 kilometers south of Lyon , 14 kilometers southeast of Valence , the capital of the Drôme department, and 4.2 kilometers southeast of Chabeuil , the canton's capital, at an average altitude of 425 meters above sea level . The Mairie ('Mayor's Office') stands at a height of 299 meters. The municipality has an area of 8.28 square kilometers.
Barcelonne is assigned to a type Cfb (according to Köppen and Geiger) climate zone : warm, moderate rainy climate (C), fully humid (f), warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C (b). There is a maritime climate with a moderate summer.
history
Barcelonne was first mentioned in 1171 as Barcinona , in 1328 it appears as Barsiliona in a document, in 1332 as Barcilena . The spelling developed in the further 14th and 15th centuries from Barcelunia (1385) to Barsilonne (1391), Barcilhone (1429) to Barsallonna (1442). In 1645 it was written Barcillone , in 1788 Barcelona . Before the French Revolution (1789–1799), Barcelonne was part of the Sénéchaussée of Crest . In 1650, the Saint-Georges church in Barcelonne was subordinate to the prior of the Saillans monastery . The lands belonged to the County of Valentinois , but were divided from the end of the 13th century. In 1689 there were 80 families in Barcelonne. The village now belongs to the parish of Saint Martin de la plaine de Valence , in the diocese of Valence . In the 20th century, the new Sainte-Anne church was built. There is also an old Protestant church in the village.
Attractions
To the northeast of the village are the ruins of the Chateau de Barcelonne from the 13th century, which can be visited at any time.
