The inhabitants are called Châtillonnais .

Châtillon-Saint-Jean is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Michel-sur-Savasse in the north, Parnans in the east and north-east, Saint-Lattier in the east and south-east, Saint-Paul-lès-Romans in the south, Génissieux in the west and south-west, Triors in the west and Geyssans in the northwest.
