Packard Pacific (1954)

The Packard Pacific was a hardtop coupe that the Packard Motor Car Company in Detroit only produced in the 1954 model year as part of the 54th series. It replaced the Mayfair model and is technically identical to the convertible (Cabriolet) of the same year.

Together with the Caribbean Custom , the Patrician 400 , the Cavalier and the Cabriolet, simply called "Packard", it was part of the "Packard Line", which differed from the Clipper models of this model year with its more luxurious equipment .

1954 was the last year Packard used in-line eight cylinder engines. New for this model year, the Hardtop (Pacific), Convertible and Caribbean (but not the Cavlier Touring Sedan) received the largest engine, which was previously reserved exclusively for the Patrician 400 Touring Sedan and the long-wheelbase versions derived from it. This eight-cylinder in-line engine with side-mounted valves and nine-bearing crankshafts had a displacement of 359 cu. in. (5,883 cm³; bore × stroke = 90.5 mm × 107.95 mm). The output of this last and most powerful version rose from 180 bhp (132 kW) to 212 bhp (156 kW) at 4,000 rpm.

This was also the last year in which the Hardtop Coupé and Cabriolet of the Packard range were built on the shorter chassis. The wheelbase of the chassis was 122 in. (3,099 mm). Like the entire Packard and Packard Clipper series, the body received only minimal optical retouching. The Packard models differ from the 53 model year with small attachments on the headlights and a modified chrome trim on the flank. There were 13 colors available. As with the Mayfair, the roof could be ordered in a color contrasting with the rest of the body for an extra charge, making the hardtop coupé look like a convertible at first glance. Almost all Pacific were ordered with this option. There were 12 color combinations available. The seats were only available in a combination of real leather with a nylon insert. 5 variants were possible: real leather black / nylon fabric white, real leather black / nylon fabric yellow, real leather green / nylon fabric green, real leather red / nylon fabric black and real leather ivory / nylon fabric black.

The Packard Pacific was model number 5477. It weighed 4,065 pounds and cost US $ 3,827. 1,189 units were built.
