The Studebaker US6 was a range of trucks from the US Studebaker Corporation , manufactured from 1941 to 1945 during World War II .
These models were paid with a 94 hp (69 kW) six-cylinder - petrol engine of the Hercules Engine Company and an equipped five-speed gearbox. Around 200,000 of these trucks were produced in 13 different variants, including tippers and tractors with a shorter wheelbase . The most common drive formulas were (6 × 4) or (6 × 6) (three axles, either two or all three driven).
A large number of Studebaker trucks were delivered to the Soviet Union through the “ Persian Corridor ” as part of the “ Lend Lease ” program . The Red Army recognized their suitability as a vehicle for launching Katyusha missiles, even if this was not the main use of the vehicle in the Soviet Union. The wagons performed many tasks in the Soviet Army, such as pulling guns; they were known for their robustness and reliability. The truck was called "Studer" (Студер) by the Soviet troops. Based on the technology and design of the Studebaker US6, the USSR developed the GAZ-51 and GAZ-63 truck types .
