Drought branch
The Dürrenast is a residential district and Leistgebiet south of the city center of Thun . On the city side, it is bounded by the former municipal border Strättligen / Thun, further by the areas of Hohmad, Neufeld , Schoren-Buchholz and Gwatt as well as Lake Thun .
Striking buildings of the Dürrenast are the Schadau with the 11th century Scherzlig Church , its castle on the lake outflow and the historical Marquard- Wocher panorama , as well as the lido in the Lachen. The quarter is also characterized by large single-family housing estates that are crossed by the Lötschberg railway line.
history
In 1573 the name Dürrenast was first mentioned in a document. The area originally consisted of pasture land, with a ship landing stage at today's Lachenkanal. In 1783 the Dürrenast only consisted of four houses. From 1870 the quarter began to grow and a village infrastructure was created. In 1920 the Dürrenast was incorporated into the city of Thun together with the rest of the Strättligen community . In the 1950s and 1960s construction activity increased and the area took on an urban character.
On May 17, 2006, three people were killed in the Dürrenast railway accident when a service train with non-functioning brakes drove into stationary construction wagons on the open road.
