Buchholz is located on the western edge of the municipality of Thun. It borders on Schoren in the southeast , Neufeld in the northeast , Allmendingen in the northwest (separated by undeveloped land) and the Burgerwald crossed by the A6 motorway in the west / southwest .
Buchholz has practically grown together with the neighboring districts of Schoren and Neufeld , but has retained the character of a farming village.
history
In the vicinity of today's village, numerous finds from the Neolithic and Bronze Age have been discovered. The name "Buchholz" was first mentioned in a document in 1287 as a place name; The family name "von Buchholz", which is already documented for the year 1240, is even older. Buchholz belonged to the Strättligen municipality , which was incorporated into the city of Thun in 1920 .
