Goldiwil is a village that belongs to the municipality of Thun . Until December 31, 1912 Goldiwil was an independent municipality. Goldiwil has been part of the municipality of Thun since January 1, 1913.

geography

The village of Goldiwil is located in a north-easterly direction, around 500 m above Thun. The border here is the Grüsisbergwald. Goldiwil also borders Heiligenschwendi, Homberg and Schwendibach. The village is around 4–5 km long from the entrance to the village. There is a difference in altitude of almost 300 m from the lowest to the highest point.

In addition to the village of Goldiwil (“Goldiwil ob dem Wald”), the former Goldiwil community also included “Goldiwil nid dem Wald”, which lies below the Grüsisberg forest and borders on Lake Thun, the Aare basin and the old town of Thun. Today it forms the Lauenen-Hofstetten-Ried district of Thun.

history

The name Goldiwils appears - as far as is known until today - for the first time in 1308 in a document in which Konrad, Rudolf and Ulrich von Goldenwyle are mentioned and referred to as Burger von Thun. Another document, a letter of purchase from 1322, deals with “half the field to the stone, behind Goldenwyle”. In 1362 it was first referred to as a community. From the year 1372 comes a certificate, written in German and in splendid typeface, about a "handing over of the Zehndende Goldewyle to Canon Thomas Kraft, Amsoldingen, and Kathrinen Zofingern zu Thun". A family "von Goldenwyl" was buried in Thun and Bern in the 14th century.

population

The village has around 1200 inhabitants.

politics

The last remnant of the incorporation of Goldiwil "ob und nid dem Wald" with Thun is the school community, which is run by the school office. Goldiwil has the privilege to elect the school commission directly through the people. In addition, the school office takes on the functions of a district management and establishes the connection to the city authorities.

The school community meeting takes place on the last Friday in January.

traffic

Goldiwil is easily accessible via the STI line 31 (Thun - Goldiwil - Heiligenschwendi ).

Sports

Goldiwil and the neighboring villages offer a multitude of paths for hiking, walking, walking, etc. In addition, Goldiwil is also attractive for cyclists. The ascent of the cantonal road from Thun to Heiligenschwendi (via Goldiwil) is mostly located in the forest and therefore very cool even in summer. Since the road is not too busy, the traffic is also pleasant. For downhill bikers there is a route over the Rabenfluh to Thun.

The Goldiwil ski club is one of the most active in the region and offers a ski lift for the very young at Multenegg. In winter there are also various toboggan runs in the area. It also has a sports field in Goldiwil.
