history
Major fire
On June 26, 1864, Oberhofen was struck by a fire disaster. As can be read in a chronicle, the fire broke out at around 10 p.m. in the house of a Samuel Zumbach on Kupfergasse. Although the neighbors quickly sounded the alarm, the fire, supported by the wind, spread rapidly. The small team of the local fire brigade soon found themselves unable to fight the growing fire. Within a few hours, a large part of the village was in full fire. A total of 73 buildings, including 35 residential buildings, fell victim to this fire. 105 families with 414 people lost all their belongings and became homeless. An old woman died in the flames. The cause of the fire could never be determined.
