Karl Friedrich Schall (born March 16, 1859 in Öhringen ; † September 19, 1925 in Oberhofen am Thunersee , Switzerland) was a German-British precision mechanic and co-founder of the company Reiniger, Gebbert & Schall in Erlangen .

Karl Schall was born on March 16, 1859 in Öhringen near Stuttgart as the son of the lawyer Wilhelm Schall. From 1877 to 1879 he trained as a precision mechanic with the university mechanic C. Erbe in Tübingen . After he had done the one-year volunteer service in the military from 1880 to 1881 , he went on wanderings to Switzerland , Paris and London .

When he returned to Stuttgart in 1883, he opened his own workshop, mainly for head, mouth and larynx lamps. In 1885, the mechanic Max Gebbert , whom Schall had met in Paris, joined the company as an equal partner, which was now called "Gebbert und Schall".

In September 1885, Schall and Gebbert met Erwin Moritz Reiniger , who ran a similar workshop for electrical and physical devices in Erlangen. On January 1, 1886, the merger took place to form the general partnership “United physical-mechanical workshops Reiniger, Gebbert & Schall - Erlangen, Stuttgart, New York” (RGS). However, the workshops in Stuttgart and New York were soon given up. Karl Schall was in charge of construction and sales in the joint company.

However, Schall left the company in 1888 and founded a business in London with his own capital, which took over the general agency of RGS for Great Britain and the colonies. He was so successful that he was able to achieve 50% of total sales. Contact with RGS remained until 1910.

In 1893, Karl Schall had applied for and received British citizenship in London.

In 1912 Karl Schall handed the management of the London company over to his son William and moved to Oberhofen am Thunersee . He died there in 1925.

On January 24, 1887, he married Johanna Schmidlin in Dresden * October 18, 1859 in Giessbach ; † June 1934 in Oberhofen am Thunersee. They had three children: Wilhelm, later called William, born April 21, 1888 in London ; † December 2, 1965 , Mary Jane * May 27, 1889 in London; † October 1927 in Thun and Margarete * December 25, 1890 in London; † March 21, 1937 in Bern .
