Pohlern is a municipality in the Thun administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

geography

The place is at the northern foot of the Stockhorn chain in the lower Stockental . Pohlern is heavily forested in its southern part and - the closer the Stockhorn is - it becomes more and more mountainous. The Bodenwald and the Engiwald are the largest forest areas. The most important bodies of water in the municipality - (from east to west) the Engibach , the Teuffibach and the Rutigraben - arise on the northern slope of the Stockhorn chain . The hamlet of Obermatt on the road between Oberstocken and Blumenstein now forms a kind of village center. Otherwise you will only find groups of houses and individual farms. Of the total municipal area of ​​9.89 km², 45.1% is forest or wood and 15.7% is unproductive area. Another 37.1% is used for agriculture and only 2.1% is settlement area.

The place borders in the south on Därstetten , in the southeast and east on Oberstocken , in the east on Höfen bei Thun , in the northeast on Uebeschi and in the northwest and west on Blumenstein .

The population speaks a high Alemannic dialect in everyday life , which is one of the dialects of Bern German . In the last census in 2000, all residents stated German as their main language.

Religions - denominations

In earlier times the entire population was members of the Evangelical Reformed Church. This has changed as a result of immigration from other regions of Switzerland and abroad and leaving the church. Today (as of 2000) 90.27% are Evangelical Reformed and 1.33% Roman Catholic Christians. In addition, there are 4.42% non-religious groups. 3.98% refused to provide information about their creed.

Origin - nationality

At the end of 2014, 251 of the 267 inhabitants (= 94.01%) were Swiss citizens. At the last census, 99.56% were Swiss nationals.

The voting shares of the parties in the 2015 National Council election were: SVP 67.7%, BDP 12.3%, SP 5.0%, GPS 3.2%, EDU 3.2%, EVP 2.6%, FDP 2.5 %, glp 1.8%, pirates 1.3%.

The community is connected to the public transport network by bus line 3 Thun-Oberstocken-Blumenstein operated by the STI public transport company.

Pohlern is on the road from Wimmis to Wattenwil. The closest motorway connection is Thun-Süd on the A6 .

Others

At the end of November 2006, a wolf killed eight sheep in Pohlern. It is only the second recorded animal north of the Alps since extinction .
