Wachseldorn is a municipality in the Thun administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
geography
The place is northeast of Steffisburg on the eastern foothills of the Buchholterberg. The two largest settlements are Wachseldorn-Dorf ( 992 m above sea level ) in the western and south ( 905 m above sea level ) in the eastern part of the municipality. There are also a number of groups of houses and individual farmsteads. The most important streams are the Rohr and the Weidbächli, which both drain to the south and flow into the Rotach. In the northwest you can find the Wachseldornmoos , a moor of national importance. In spite of its name, however, it is almost entirely on the parish grounds of Buchholterberg . Just north of Wachseldorn-Dorf rises the Wachseldornhubel, which is 1034 m above sea level. M. is the highest point in the municipality. In the middle of the municipality there are large forest areas from north to south. Of the entire municipal area of 351 hectares, 71.2% is used for agriculture. A further 23.7% of the municipality's land is covered by forest and wood and only 5.1% is settlement area.
Wachseldorn borders on Buchholterberg to the west, Röthenbach in the Emmental to the north and east and Oberlangenegg to the south .

The population speaks a high Alemannic dialect in everyday life , which is one of the dialects of Bern German . In the last census in 2000, all residents gave German as their main language.
Religions - denominations
In earlier times the entire population belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church. This has changed as a result of leaving the church and immigration from other regions in Switzerland and abroad. Today (as of 2000) 90.04% are Evangelical Reformed, 3.20% Roman Catholic and 0.36% Free Church Christians. There are also 2.85% without religious affiliation. 3.56% of the residents did not provide any information about their creed.
Origin - nationality
At the beginning of 2005, 265 (= 99.62%) of the 266 inhabitants were Swiss citizens. In the last census it was even 100%.

The voting shares of the parties on the occasion of the 2015 National Council election were: SVP 72.9%, BDP 8.3%, EPP 5.6%, EDU 5.1%, GPS 3.7%, SP 1.8%, Alpine Parliament 1.2 %, SD 1.0%, glp 0.1%, FDP 0.0%, CVP 0.0%.

The place is connected to the public transport network by bus line 42 (Thun-Süderen- Heimenschwand ) operated by STI .
The district of Süderen is located on Schallenbergstrasse from Steffisburg to Entlebuch. The district Wachseldorn-Dorf, on the other hand, is on the road Süderen-Bleiken-Oberdiessbach resp. Süderen-Fahrni-Steffisburg. The next motorway connections are Thun-Nord and Kiesen on the A6 .
