Until December 31, 2019, Schwendibach was a political municipality in the Thun administrative district of the canton of Bern in Switzerland . It merged with Steffisburg on January 1, 2020 .
geography
The place is located on a northward sloping slope south of the Zulg in the lower Zulg valley. It is located just east of the city of Thun and is the smallest municipality in the entire district in terms of area. There is no center of the village. Of the total municipal area of 149 hectares, 71.5% is used for agriculture. Another 17.9% - especially on the southern municipal boundary - is covered by forest and wood and 10.6% is settlement area.
Schwendibach bordered the city of Thun in the south, Steffisburg in the west and northwest and Homberg in the northeast and east .

At the end of 2005 the place had 252 residents.
languages
The population speaks a high Alemannic dialect in everyday life , which is one of the dialects of Bern German . At the last census in 2000, 98.47% said German, 0.76% French and 0.38% Italian were the main language.
Religions - denominations
In earlier times the entire population belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church. This has changed as a result of immigration from other regions of Switzerland and abroad and leaving the church. Today (as of 2000) 85.11% are Evangelical Reformed and 3.44% Roman Catholic Christians. In addition, there are 6.11% without religious affiliation. 5.34% of the population refused to provide information about their creed.
Origin - nationality
Of the 261 inhabitants at the beginning of 2005, 255 (97.70%) were Swiss citizens. At the last census, 99.24% were Swiss citizens, including two dual citizens. One person each had German and Italian citizenship.

The voting shares of the parties in the 2015 National Council election were: SVP 62.2%, BDP 9.9%, EDU 8.4%, EVP 6.6%, SP 4.3%, GPS 3.5%, glp 2.9 %, CVP 1.3%, FDP 0.8%.
traffic
The former municipality is connected to the public transport network by the STI bus line Thun – Teuffenthal.
The place is on a road that leads from Thun to Teuffenthal. The closest motorway connection is Thun-Nord on the A6 .
