Uetendorf is a municipality in the Thun administrative district in the canton of Bern ( Switzerland ).

Linguistically, the name Uetendorf is formed from the Old High German Uoto and the generic word village . The earlier basic form was Uotindorf (village of Uto).

geography

The community lies at the foot of the moraine wall between the headwaters of the Gürbe and the wide plain of the Aare valley near the city of Thun and is traversed by the Glütschbach .

The following localities and hamlets belong to the municipality: Uetendorf-Allmend , Chandermatte, Gibliz, Uetendorfberg, Buchshalten, Willerüti, Dorf, Berg and Guet.

The neighboring communities are Thun , Thierachern , Steffisburg , Heimberg , Uttigen , Längenbühl , Gurzelen and Seftigen .

history

Uetendorf is mentioned for the first time in 994 when the German King Otto III. (HRR) donated the hamlet to the Selz monastery in Alsace . Until 1798, Uetendorf was little more than a place name and a description for a domain. The village community had hardly any political rights. It was not until the Bern constitution of 1831 that Uetendorf became an independent municipality.
