Uetendorfer Allmend
The Uetendorfer Allmend is a district of Uetendorf in the Swiss canton of Bern .
location
The Allmend lies between Uetendorf and Heimberg , about five kilometers northwest of Thun . The Allmend used to be in the middle of the Kander marshland and was constantly flooded before the Kander breakthrough at the beginning of the 18th century. As a result, it was largely uninhabitable for a long time.
Until well into the 20th century, only a small number of farmers lived on the Allmend. During the big building boom in the 1950s, the Allmend became more and more urban and residential and industrial buildings were built.
The Gürbetalbahn has been running through Allmend since 1901 and has had its own stop since the 1970s. In 2020/21 the line between Thun-Lerchenfeld and Uetendorf will be expanded to double lanes and the Uetendorf-Allmend stop will be modernized.
The Uetendorfer Allmend has been the location of the Thunersee wastewater treatment plant since 1972.
