Bruce Jay Friedman (1930-2020)

Bruce Jay Friedman (born April 26, 1930 in New York City , † June 3, 2020 ) was an American writer and screenwriter .

Life

Friedman attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri . He then served two years in the United States Air Force . In the 1950s and 1960s he worked as an editor for four different men's adventure magazines . He also wrote short stories on the side and from the early 1960s he was entirely active as a writer. He also wrote several plays and was occasionally active as a screenwriter. As an actor, he appeared in supporting roles in Husbands and Wives (1992) and em @ il for you (1998).

His involvement in the screenplay for Splash earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1985 together with his co-authors . They were also recognized for Best Screenplay by the National Society of Film Critics .

In 2011 he published his memoirs with Lucky Bruce . Friendships connected him with the writers Mario Puzo and Joseph Heller .

From 1954 to 1978 he was married to the model Ginger Howard. In 1983 he married a second time. Friedman was the father of four children.
