The Calimeros are a Swiss hit band .

Band history

The idea for an entertainment band arose in 1976 at a club evening at the Uetendorf sports club . The Calimeros were then founded by Roland Eberhart, Kurt Wyss († June 2013) and three other colleagues. At first they only played at parties and celebrations, but in a few years they had become so established that they recorded their first album Sommerwind in 1983 . With the song You are like the stars so beautiful , written by Eberhart , it contained her best-known piece to this day. In 2008 it was nominated in the television program The Greatest Swiss Hits in the category Heimat & Fernweh .

The first album already went platinum and over the years more than 20 albums have been released, which have been awarded five gold and four platinum records for a total of over 700,000 records sold. This makes them the most successful hit group in Switzerland.

After the first success, there were numerous television appearances and in 1992, for the 15th anniversary, an own show on Swiss television. Four years later they were signed by Koch Media and since then they have also been represented in Germany and Austria. At the end of 1999 two members left the band, so that the Calimeros are now only on the road as a trio. In the 2000s, the band was represented five times in the preliminary round of the Grand Prix of Folk Music and appeared in international TV programs such as the Musikantenstadl and Achim's hit parade .

The head of the band, Roland Eberhart, released a solo album in 2004 with the title I tröime vo Dir with songs in Bern German . He not only composes almost all the pieces for his own band, but also writes for other performers such as Die Amigos and Combox . He has his own radio show at Radio Eviva .

The album Sommersehnsucht , released in July 2015, is the most successful album in Switzerland. It reached number 1 and also defended this position in the second week. In Germany and Austria it reached 5th place each, but could not match the success in Switzerland. In Austria it flew out of the charts after only one week, in Germany it slipped to number 71 in the second week.

In July 2016 the next album Schiff Ahoi was released . It again reached number 1 in the Swiss charts. For the first time, the Calimeros managed to achieve second place in Germany and the top spot in Austria.

With the release of Endlos Liebe in May 2019, they reached number one in the German album charts for the first time . This makes them the first Swiss band in the history of the German music charts to have succeeded.
