Niklaus von Scharnachthal (* approx. 1419 ; † 1489 ) was mayor of the city ​​of Bern .

Scharnachthal was co- lord of Wimmis, Diemtigen and Unspunnen as well as lord of Schwanden, Oberhofen and Krattigen. From 1446 he was a member of the large council, from 1451 of the small council, in 1458 he was mayor of Thun and from 1463 to 1472 he was alternating mayor of Bern. During the Waldshut War in 1468 he was one of the captains of the Bernese troops. In the twin lords' dispute , he lost his position as mayor to Peter Kistler .

He served several times as envoy, in 1461 in the peace treaty with Austria after the Thurgau War, in 1466 for the renewal of the union with Savoy, in 1474 together with Petermann von Wabern in Dijon. He served in the Burgundian Wars as a military leader in the Battle of Héricourt and in the Battle of Murten . Scharnachthal was paralyzed on one side by a lightning strike in 1477 and resigned from all offices in 1479.
