Niklaus von Diesbach (* 1430 ; † August 7, 1475 in Porrentruy ) was mayor of the city ​​of Bern .

Life

Niklaus von Diesbach was the son of Loy von Diesbach, who had become Herr zu Signau through his marriage to Klara von Büren. His first marriage in 1449 was Anna von Rüssegg von Luzern and his second marriage in 1467 was Barbara von Scharnachtal , daughter of Kaspar von Scharnachtal. Diesbach completed a commercial apprenticeship from 1439 in Basel with Wernlin von Kilchen, head of the Halbisen Society. He then joined the Diesbach-Watt Society and went on several trips, including to Barcelona .

In 1450 he was appointed to the Grand Council of the City of Bern, in 1452 to the Small Council, and from 1465 to 1466 and 1474 to 1475 he was mayor of Bern. During the Waldshut War in 1468 he was one of the captains of the Bernese troops. Together with his cousin Wilhelm von Diesbach , he went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and Sinai , where both were made knights of St. Catherine's Monastery.

In 1469 he managed to get the last missing parts of the lordships Diessbach and Worb of the families of Kilchen and Bogkess. In the Twingherrenstreit he fought with his later opponent Adrian I. von Bubenberg for rights of the manor.
