Kulgam is a city ( Municipal Committee ) in the west of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
It forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . In the 2011 census, the population was 23,584. About 95% Muslims and 4% Hindus live in the city .
The city of Kulgam is located in the south of the Kashmir Valley at an altitude of 2089 m between Shopian in the northwest and Anantnag in the northeast. The Veshav River runs south of the city in a westerly direction.
