Kulgam is a district in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
The district was detached from the Anantnag district on April 2, 2007 . It is located in the southwestern part of the Kashmir Valley west of the city of Anantnag . The Veshav , a left tributary of the Jhelam , drains the northern flank of the Pir Panjal and crosses the district. The administrative seat of the district is the city of Kulgam .
