The Badgam District (or Budgam ) is a district in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in India . The district was created in 1979. It is a district with a majority of Shiite Muslims .

The Badgam District was separated from the Srinagar District in 1979 . Before he came to Srinagar District, he was part of Baramulla District. The district is bordered by the districts of Srinagar and Baramulla in the north, Pulwama in the south and Punch in the southwest. The district consists of eight blocks: Beerwah, Nagam, Badgam, BKPora, Khan Sahib, Khag, Narbal and Chadoora. Each block consists of a series of panchayats . The district is also divided into five tehsils : Charari Sharief, Beerwah, Badgam, Chadoora and Khansahib.

According to the 2011 census , Badgam district has 753,745 residents. It ranks 492 out of 640 in India. The district's population density is 554 people per square kilometer. The population increase from 2001 to 2011 was 24.14%. The gender ratio was 894 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 56.08%,

Significant places

The most important places in the district include Doodhpathri, Yusmarg , Tosa Maidan, Nilnag and Pehjan. The shrine of Sheikh Noor-ud-din Wali is located in Charari Sharief.
