Samba is a district in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .

The Samba District was established in 2007. It was originally part of the Jammu district . It consists of the city of Samba and adjacent Tehsils . Historically, samba consists of 22 cities (called mandi). The majority of the population are Rajputs and serve in various units and organizations in the Indian armed forces. The district is separated from the Jammu district by the Purmandal Bridge .

The Samba District consists of four blocks: Samba, Vijaypur, Purmandal and Ghagwal. Each block consists of several Panchayati Rajs . The administrative seat is Samba .

The district has two constituencies.

population

According to the 2011 census , the district has 318,898 inhabitants. It ranks 568 out of the 640 districts in India. The population density was 353 inhabitants per square kilometer. The population growth from 2001 to 2011 was 16.9%. The district has a gender distribution of 886 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 81.48%. According to the 2001 census, just under 6% of the district's population are Muslim .
