Bandipore (or Bandipora ) is a district in the Kashmir Valley in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in India .
The district was created in 2007 by splitting off from the Baramulla district .
location
The district extends in the Kashmir Valley north and east of the Wularsee . The northern part of the district lies in the Himalayas and includes the upper reaches of the Kishenganga . The northern district boundary runs along the Line of Control (LoC), the demarcation line to Pakistan .

According to the 2011 census , the district had 392,232 residents. It ranks 559 out of 640 districts in India. The population density was 1137 inhabitants per square kilometer. The population growth from 2001 to 2011 was 28.65%. The gender distribution for the district was 889 women per 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 56.28%.
Administrative division
The administrative seat of the district is the place Bandipore . The district is divided into three tehsils : Bandipore, Gurez and Sonawari.
