Shopian ( Urdu شوپیاں ضلع) is a district in the Kashmir Valley in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
The Shopian District was created in 2007 when it was separated from what was then Pulwama District . The administrative seat of the district is the city of Shopian .

According to the 2011 census, the district had 266,215 residents. It ranks 576 out of 640 districts in India. The population density was 852 inhabitants per square kilometer. The population growth from 2001 to 2011 was 25.85%. The district's gender distribution was 951 women for every 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 60.76%.
