Kupwara is a district in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .

The district is bordered by the Pakistani-administered part of Jammu and Kashmir to the north and west and the Baramulla district to the south and east . Towns ( Municipal Councils ) in the district are Kupwara and Handwara .

Administrative division

The district is divided into three tehsils : Handwara, Karnah and Kupwara. It also consists of 11 blocks: Sogam, Tangdar, Teetwal, Ramhal, Kupwara, Rajwar, Kralpora, Langate, Wavoora, Trehgam and Kalaroos. Each block has a number of panchayats .

The area has large forests and the Nilam flows through it in an east-west direction.

Agriculture is the main source of income for the people in the district.

population

According to the 2011 census, Kupwara had 875,354 inhabitants. This puts the district on rank 471 out of 640 in India. Kupwara has a population density of 366 inhabitants per square kilometer. The population growth from 2001 to 2011 was 34.62%. The district has a gender distribution of 843 women for 1000 men. The literacy rate is 64.51%.

The people mostly belong to the Kashmiri and it is Gurjar on the border with Pakistan.

Kupwara District has five constituencies: Karnah, Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara and Langate.
