The Trilex ( proper spelling : trilex ) is a brand of the Länderbahn GmbH with headquarters in Hrádek nad Nisou in the Regentalbahn group .

history

Trilex at the Seifhennersdorf stop

The Trilex was launched at the end of 2010 as a brand of the then Vogtlandbahn (now renamed Die Länderbahn GmbH ) after they secured transport in the triangle of Germany / Poland / Czech Republic on the routes from Liberec via Zittau to Seifhennersdorf and Rybniště for 10 years in 2009 could. The award was based on a German-Czech tender from the three local public transport authorities Liberecký kraj , Ústecký kraj and ZVON for the operation of the three-country line Liberec - Zittau  - Varnsdorf - Rybniště / Seifhennersdorf .

The brand name Trilex emerged from a naming competition in October 2010 and stands for Dreiländerexpress. The prefix tri- stands for the Greek prefix for three and the ending -lex goes back to the naming philosophy of the Vogtlandbahn, as another such marketing name had already been created with alex . The brand name refers to the three countries Germany , the Czech Republic and Poland , through which the trains run.

With the start of operations in the border triangle, the Trilex replaced the previous operators, the Saxon-Bohemian Railway Company and České dráhy . For example, connections from Liberec to Seifhennersdorf or Rybniště were created, which run every 60 minutes between Liberec and Varnsdorf and every 120 minutes between Varnsdorf and Seifhennersdorf or Rybniště. There is also a 30-minute cycle between Liberec and Hrádek nad Nisou during rush hour .

At the end of June 2013, after a joint tender with the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) , the ZVON announced that the Vogtlandbahn would be operating the services in the so-called East Saxony network on the Dresden - Bischofswerda - Bautzen - Löbau - Görlitz and Dresden - Bischofswerda - Wilthen  - Oberoderwitz routes  - Zittau  - Liberec from December 2014 for a total of four years. The previous operator DB Regio Südost appealed against this decision to the public procurement tribunal in Leipzig.

The public procurement chamber ordered the transport authorities to reassess the offers from DB Regio and Vogtlandbahn. After the re-evaluation, the ZVON announced in October 2013 that the Vogtlandbahn has now finally been awarded the contract.

In March 2014 it was announced that the East Saxony network will also be operated under the Trilex brand . Therefore, the tri in the brand name now also stands for the three regions of Dresden Elbe Valley , Upper Lusatia and the upper valley of the Lusatian Neisse .

The transport associations VVO and ZVON announced at the end of February 2015 that the direct connection from Dresden via Görlitz to Wrocław Główny will be discontinued from March 2015. The reason for this is the lack of financial resources on the Polish side.

Since the end of February 2015, the Trilex has had a lynx named Luca as its mascot. The name was previously selected from almost 400 suggestions in a competition.

With the timetable change on December 13, 2015, the direct connection Dresden – Görlitz – Wrocław / Breslau was resumed. The DB Regio Southeast operates as a subcontractor of trilex and KD .

On April 26, 2018, it was announced that the DB Regio subsidiary Verkehrsgesellschaft Start Ostsachsen would take over operations on all routes currently served by Trilex from December 2019 (today's route L7 from December 2020). The Länderbahn appealed against the decision to the procurement chamber of Saxony.

On November 2, 2018, the procurement chamber announced that, contrary to the announcement of the transport authorities, the Eastern Saxony network may not be awarded to Start , as this company does not meet the eligibility criteria in the chamber's opinion. On February 15, 2019, this decision was confirmed by the Dresden Higher Regional Court.

On April 1, 2019, the four transport authorities of the Länderbahn officially awarded the contract to operate the Ostsachsennetz II for the period from December 2019 to December 2031. In the course of this, the Länderbahn will take over the RB60V from the ODEG , which will then operate as the RE1V line. The entire timetable concept will be changed and should enable faster travel times and better connections in Upper Lusatia.

For this new contract, the vehicles are to be redesigned and given, among other things, a new paint job and new seat cushions.

December 13, 2020 - December 13, 2031 (excluding Varnsdorf - Rybniště)

Between Liberec and Varnsdorf trains run every 60 minutes between Zittau and Varnsdorf but sometimes dense. The branches to Seifhennersdorf and Rybniště are served alternately every two hours. Sometimes, however, there is hourly traffic in both directions.

Between Liberec and Hrádek nad Nisou, the rush hour cycle is reduced to half an hour. Line L7 was referred to as TLX until the timetable change in December 2014 and the start of operations in the East Saxony network and as TL70 until December 2016.

Lines RE1 and RE2 run every two hours, which means that there is an hourly service between Dresden and Bischofswerda . The lines RB60 and RB61 also run every two hours, which also creates an hourly service between Dresden and Bischofswerda. Overlaying with the RB34 of the Saxony urban railway creates a roughly half-hourly cycle between Dresden and Radeberg. Between Bischofswerda and Görlitz, the OE60V line of the ODEG condenses the journeys of the RB60 to an hourly rate. From the start of operation of the Trilex until the timetable change in December 2016, lines RE1 and RE2 were referred to as TLX1 and TLX2 (“Trilex Express”). The regional train lines RB60 and RB61 were named TL60 and TL61 during this time.

With the award of the East Saxony network II , the Länderbahn also took over the RB60V lines from the ODEG, which compresses the RB60 to an hourly rate, as well as a new RE1V line, which also operates hourly between Bischofswerda and Görlitz on the RE1. In Bischofswerda the RE1V is connected to the RE2 from and to Dresden. During the week a large part of the trains from Dresden are run as part of the RE2, so that a connection between Dresden and Görlitz can be offered without changing trains. The RB60V only runs Monday to Friday and in Bischofswerda has a connection to the trains of the RB61 line to and from Dresden. This means that there are four journeys in two hours between Dresden and Görlitz from Monday to Friday. However, both lines are not shown separately, but considered as part of the main lines.

Also with the timetable change in December 2019, individual journeys of the RE1 were extended to Zgorzelec in cooperation with Koleje Dolnośląskie , from where there is a connection to the electric trains to and from Wroclaw.

The Desiro Classic type railcars are mainly used on the routes mentioned above . These are all 26 railcars of this series of the Länderbahn, some of which were funded by the Free States of Saxony or Bavaria . For trips to Poland, DB Regio operates its own, appropriately equipped Desiro Classic multiple units as a subcontractor of the regional railway. Even after the end of cross-border traffic in March 2015, Deutsche Bahn continues to make some of its trips to Görlitz. DB Regio also provides the train drivers . The trains usually run in single or double traction , individual journeys also in triple traction .

Only on line L7 were there occasional railcars of the Vogtlandbahn type RegioSprinter . If there was a lack of vehicles, rented Regio-Shuttle RS1s were also used.

The locomotives are serviced by the Länderbahn in Neumark , by the Ostdeutsche maintenance company (ODIG) in Görlitz and partly also by the Deutsche Bahn in Dresden. The trains are parked overnight in Görlitz, Dresden and Zittau.

Since April 2015, four additional Regio-Shuttles bought by ODEG have been used on the L7 line. Together with a Desiro, these covered all traffic on the L7 line and replaced the RegioSprinter.

Trilex advertising railcar with the name "Oberlausitz-Express", 2017

In 2013, one Desiro railcar was christened Hrádek nad Nisou and Großschönau (Sachs) . All other railcars currently have no names. A Desiro has been wearing an advertising sticker for the Zittau narrow-gauge railway since December 2014 . The Regio-Shuttle bought by ODEG also had advertising stickers for tourist destinations in the Trilex network. One half of another Desiro was pasted in the color scheme of Koleje Dolnośląskie to draw attention to the connections of this railway company to Jelenia Góra and Wrocław Główny .

Between December 2014 and June 2016, some Desiro railcars were used to replace new vehicles that had not been delivered to the Upper Palatinate Railway. After these railcars have returned, the four Regio-Shuttles with advertising stickers will no longer be used on the Trilex routes as planned. From 2017 to the end of 2019, in addition to the Desiro Classic on line L7, Vogtlandbahn's regio shuttles were also in use. Since the timetable change in 2019, however, these RegioShuttle are back in Vogtland, which is why other RegioShuttle operate.

Since the middle of April 2017, a Desiro railcar has been advertising a trip to the Zittau Mountains with advertising stickers . At the beginning of September 2017 it was christened the “Oberlausitz Express”.

The Desiro railcars are to be redesigned, with the previous green paintwork being replaced by an orange one in a Trilex design.

Tariff

Timetables of the Deutsche Bahn and the successor to the Trilex '

All Trilex trains are manned by train attendants (some of whom are bilingual). This also sells tickets on the trains. In particular, Deutsche Bahn ticket machines were dismantled at all train stations in the ZVON area for the start of operations on the lines from Dresden to Görlitz and Liberec. However, there is still a person-operated sale of tickets at several points in the ZVON area.

On the Trilex trains, tickets for the IDOL, VVO (including Elbe-Labe-Ticket ) and ZVON-Tariff (including Euro-Neisse-Ticket ) as well as for journeys through several transport associations according to the local transport tariff of Deutsche Bahn are recognized by the train attendants and sold without surcharge. A separate so-called Trilex tariff is offered for trips in the Czech Republic and on the L7 line, which can be paid in euros or kroner . Furthermore, so-called cat's jump tickets are sold for certain sections of the route, a Trilex day ticket is sold for the entire Trilex network.

The “Dresden-Wrocław Special” is offered on the route between Dresden and Wrocław.

The DB local transport offers Ländicket , Sachsen-Böhmen-Ticket and Quer -übers-Land-Ticket are valid, as is free travel for the severely disabled, including on the short Czech section. Long-distance tickets cannot be purchased from the conductor.
