Buer Castle

The castle Buer is an Outbound medieval moated castle southeast of the center of Gelsenkirchen-Buer in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The Niederungsburg was where Nienhofstrasse now crosses De La Chevallerie Strasse. According to the first Prussian survey of August 1822, an area surrounded by water should have existed at this point.

history

Today very little is known about the castle, which, as documents show, was already lost in the middle of the 15th century. Obviously, it was eponymous for the gentlemen von Buer . These were ministerials of the Werden monastery and had received Buer as a fief.

Since the von Buer family had the name de Bure from 1292 at the latest, it can be assumed that the castle already existed at that time. The family sat in the castle until around 1400. Then she lost the Buer fiefdom. At about the same time, Buer Castle also went under, because in 1444 people only spoke of the former Buer Castle House.

It is assumed that the Lords of Buer were on the side of the losers of the Battle of Kleverhamm in 1397 , that is, on the Bergisch side . In any case, the members of the line of the Lords of Buer who provided the Drosten from Werden were demonstrably Berg vassals. Among the winners of the battle, on the other hand, was the Count von der Mark , who was also the nobleman of the Werden monastery. After winning the battle, he could have insisted on withdrawing the Buer fief from the lords of Buer and letting the Buer castle razed.
