The Hörder Bach is a body of water in the south of Dortmund . The brook rises in the Schwerter Wald in the Sölde district and flows into the Emscher as an orographically left tributary in Hörde . When it flows in, the Hörder Bach carries about the same amount of water as the Emscher itself.
At the lower reaches of the Hörder Bach was mill water. In the 15th century, not far from Hörder Castle, a flour mill was operated by the Counts of the Mark. There was an oil mill by the stream at Clarenberg Monastery . Here water was taken from the brook to brew beer in the monastery brewery .
In the course of the industrialization of the Hörde district and the construction of the iron and steel works Hermannshütte , the Hörder Bach was channeled in the lower reaches. In the course of the development of the Phoenix Lake , the Hörder Bach was also renatured and now flows into the renatured Emscher above ground not far from the Hörder Burg.
