The Dortmunder Stifts Brewery was a brewery in the Dortmund district of Hörde .

The first beer in Hörde was brewed by the nuns of the Clarenberg monastery . On the site of the former monastery at the foot of the Hermannshütte , the entrepreneur Eduard Frantzen built a modern, industrially producing beer brewery in 1867. Eduard Frantzen died in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870/1871. His brother Ludwig Frantzen then took over the management of the brewery. In 1903 the brewery merged with the Wallrabe brewery founded in 1870, which was converted into a stock corporation in 1900 and renamed "Bürgerliches Brauhaus AG, Hoerde" in 1901. Since then the name of the company has been "Stifts-Brauerei Aktiengesellschaft vorm. Eduard Frantzen and Bürgerliches Brauhaus ”.

Production took place in the modern production facilities of the monastery brewery. In 1909 Ludwig Frantzen took over the management and the brewery was expanded into a large brewery. In the mid-1930s, the Funke family, owners of the Essener Stern brewery , acquired significant shares in the monastery brewery. Since then, the company has operated under the name “Dortmunder Stiftsbrauerei Carl Funke AG”.

After the Stern Brewery Essen had also acquired the remaining shares (25%) of the founding family Frantzen in 1971, all of the Funkegruppe's breweries were sold to the British Whatney-Man group in 1973.

In the 1970s, the Stifts brewery was also active in sports sponsorship and supported the activities of Borussia Dortmund .

As the first takeover of the concentration process in the Dortmund brewery industry, the private brewery Dortmunder Kronen took over the company in 1987.

The production site of the Stifts-Brauerei was demolished in 2020.
