The Gildenbrauerei AG was a brewery in Dortmund .

history

The brewery was founded in 1874 by the Ross brothers outside the historic ramparts of the city of Dortmund. The brewery of the Gildenbrauerei was in the Kreuzviertel in the immediate vicinity of today's Bundesstraße 1 . In order to raise further capital, the Ross & Co. brewery was converted into a stock corporation in 1899 and has operated under the name Gildenbrau AG since then . The initial capital was 1.5 million marks . At that time, the Gildenbrauerei produced up to 75,000 hectoliters of beer a year.

The strong competition among the breweries in Dortmund and the First World War led to sales problems at the Gildenbrauerei. In 1917 the Dortmund Union Brewery took over the local competitor and the brewery was shut down.

Today there is a residential area on the site of the former guild brewery. The foundations of the winery are used today for an underground car park. The allotment gardens Gildenpark and the street names Gerstenstraße , Hopfenstraße and Malzstraße are reminiscent of the former brewery location .
