The Hattingen (Ruhr) train station is a train station in the city of Hattingen . It also includes the Hattingen (Ruhr) Mitte stop . The latter, however, is the more important point of access to local rail transport , as the old town of Hattingen and the bus station are located here .
Hattingen (Ruhr) station
history
The station is on the Dahlhausen (Ruhr) –Henrichshütte section of the Middle Ruhr Valley Railway , which opened on December 28, 1869 and was created by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . In 1874 the route from Henrichshütte to Hagen was extended. In 1884 the branch line to Wuppertal was put into operation.
Construction of the reception building began on August 15, 1868; it was officially opened on February 15, 1870. The building is located in the position of a wedge station in the fork of the railway lines and is a multi-part construction made of Ruhr sandstone , with a three-story tower on the entrance side. Like many representative buildings from the Wilhelminian era , it shows a classical or late classical style influenced by Karl Friedrich Schinkel .
Bahnhofstrasse connects the train station, which is close to the Ruhr, with Hattingen's old town. At the end of the 19th century, this street was the axis of a city expansion towards the west. The site of the Henrichshütte, founded in 1854, borders upstream . The Birschel mill is located near the train station .
With the end of mining, the importance of the Ruhr Valley Railway also decreased. In 1971, passenger traffic between Hattingen and Hagen was discontinued, and from November 30, 1979, there were no more trains in the direction of Wuppertal . The remaining section of the Ruhr Valley Railway to Essen, however, was electrified on May 20, 1974 and included in the network of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn .
After construction began on May 25, 1985, a branch line to the station and the Hattingen (Ruhr) Mitte stop was opened on July 3, 1987. For more information, see the history of the Hattingen (Ruhr) Mitte stop in the further course of the article .
Museum railway
Today the Hattingen (Ruhr) station is an attraction as a stopping point for the museum railway of the Dahlhausen Railway Museum and the R line of the RuhrtalBahn . The building has been renovated and houses a restaurant.

The S-Bahn station Hattingen (Ruhr) Mitte is the southern terminus of the S 3 line of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn in the city center of Hattingen. The stop is in a low position and has a 96 cm high side platform. Access is via two flights of stairs, an escalator or an elevator. Thus the station is barrier-free .
history
Hattingen Mitte station was opened in 1987 as the terminus of the extension of the S 3 coming from Hattingen (Ruhr) station, as Hattingen (Ruhr) was away from the city center and the central bus station. Because only a few bus lines served the station, but all connections in numerous directions, especially in neighboring cities, began without a rail connection at the ZOB, the S-Bahn was extended over a branch line to the ZOB in order to achieve an ideal transfer option between the means of transport.
In 1994, the end of the tram line 308 to Bochum operated by Bogestra was relocated from its previous end “Am Reschop” to the Mitte stop, which was separate from the other public transport services. In 2008 the station was renovated.
service
You can change to tram line 308 . This stops right at the exit of the S-Bahn. The ZOB Hattingen Mitte can be reached via a pedestrian bridge . These bus routes not only run through Hattingen, but also in the surrounding cities of Velbert , Sprockhövel , Essen , Bochum and Witten as well as in more distant cities. A large number of the buses are operated by the Ennepe-Ruhr transport company.
