The United Eulalia colliery is a former hard coal mine in Wetter . The mine was first mentioned in 1855 and was in operation until 1922 with several interruptions and one renaming.

Mining history United Eulalia

On February 12, 1856, the approval for the mine field was inserted. On March 27, 1858 was carried out ceremony of the square field Eulalia and on 4 November of the same year the award for the square fields Eulalia II and III Eulalia. After the award, the three quarter fields consolidated into the United Eulalia colliery. The Berechtsame comprised 3 square kilometers. At the beginning of the year 1859, excavation of the tunnel began, the tunnel mouth hole was on the north bank of what will later become Lake Harkort , on the road from Wetter to Herdecke. The tunnel was driven in a northerly direction.

In 1862 the length of the tunnel was 80 ½ Lachter , but no seam had been developed up to this point . Over a drift length of 41 Lachter from Stollenmundloch has begun a search location with a slope of 31.5 to the west Gon aufzufahren. Since no seam was found, in May 1863 the driveway of the search site to the west was deferred at a length of 23 1/8 lights. Then 2 were wells to a depth of 12 Lachter field Eulalia II geteuft . On November 28 of the same year, the digging of the shafts was postponed because again no seam had been found. The mine was also shut down.

On September 20, 1904, there was another unsuccessful attempt to open up the seam at another point in the mine field. In 1910 the mine was operated briefly with three miners .

Mining history Eulalia

After the name was changed to Eulalia colliery and reopening on April 1, 1914, new search work was carried out, including on Gederner Strasse in Herdecke-Vosskuhle. Since the work with three miners did not yield any funding, the mine was soon taken out of service. In 1917 the tunnel on the Wetter-Herdecke road was reopened. The further excavation and expansion of the tunnel was carried out with three miners up to a length of 180 meters from the tunnel mouth hole. Ten miners were employed in 1918, but no mining was carried out. In 1919, a tunnel that had already been set up and was located 200 meters further west on the steep slope was driven further. Since no seam could be developed here either, the drive was soon postponed.

In the spring of 1920 the tunnel on the road from Wetter to Herdecke was abandoned. In September of the same year, an unsuccessful search for coal was carried out in the tunnel in the Vosskuhle . In October, the chaffinch tunnel in the Harkorten mine field was further excavated . In 1921 a seam was approached and mining began; 212 tons of hard coal were extracted with nine miners. In the following year the chaffinch tunnel reached a length of 65 meters, with seven miners 396 tons of hard coal were extracted. On February 15, 1922, the Eulalia colliery was finally shut down.
