history

The Qaraghandy Circus opened on February 14, 1983 after seven years of construction. On August 29, 2004, despite the protests of the architect, a four-meter-high sculpture depicting a girl at a ball was installed.

In 2008, the Karagandy City Council decided to close the circus for extensive repairs worth 248 million tenge . These had become necessary because the building had not been renovated since it opened.

On July 2, 2010, a fire broke out in the dome during welding work that destroyed around ten percent of the dome. There were no deaths or injuries.
