John August

John August (born John Meise on August 4, 1970 in Boulder , Colorado ) is an American journalist and screenwriter .

Life

After graduating from Drake University in Iowa with a degree in journalism , he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a screenwriter. He graduated from the School of Cinema-Television at USC under the direction of Peter Stark .

His breakthrough came with the screenplay for Go , which was acquired by Columbia Pictures and directed by Doug Liman . This was followed by the filming of the series 3 Angels for Charlie and Titan AE as well as some unnamed "re-writes" on various films.

After the novel Big Fish by Daniel Wallace had read, he asked Columbia Pictures, to secure him the film rights to it. With the adaptation , he and the director Tim Burton made a film that was not only successful, but also satisfactory for the author of the original. John August continued working with Tim Burton on Corpse Bride and the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . In 2012 there was another collaboration with Burton in the horror - comedy Dark Shadows .

John August also wrote the script for the long-delayed remake of Barbarella and is currently working on a script for a new Tarzan film for a studio .
