The Essen-Frohnhausen stop is a stop on the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn in Essen 's Frohnhausen district on the Mülheim – Dortmund route .
history
The Essen-Frohnhausen S-Bahn stop was built in 1974 as part of the construction of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn. For this purpose, the route served in freight traffic was expanded. Since 1974 it has been served by the S1 lines, initially between Bochum and Duisburg - Großenbaum and the S3 between Oberhausen and Hattingen .
Several routes are bundled in the area of the stop.
The S-Bahn tracks are the southernmost route, the tracks for long-distance trains are to the north of it.
Between the two S-Bahn tracks, the railway line to Essen-Borbeck runs on two tracks with no access , and today (2020) the RE14 Regional Express and the S9 S-Bahn line run on it. The latter replaced the local transport line N9, which had operated there until then, in 1998. These tracks will be built to the west of the Frohnhausen stop under the S-Bahn track in the direction of Duisburg and under the long-distance tracks adjacent to the north ; both lines will be merged in the Essen West train station to the east .
On the southernmost track is the side platform in the direction of Essen, between the line to Borbeck and the northern S-Bahn track is the platform in the direction of Duisburg and Oberhausen .
service
The breakpoint is in rail transport today only from the lines S1 and S3 of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr operated ( Kursbuch lines 450.1 and 450.3).
The stopping point has the abbreviation EEFO in the operating point directory of Deutsche Bahn . The stop is in the station category 4 as a local transport system stop mainly for commuters . The two platforms are not barrier-free accessible from the east and from the west. There is a designated park-and-ride area north of the stop .
