The bill Zweckel was a coal - mine in Gladbeck in the northernmost district Zweckel .

history

The Prussian state acquired at the beginning of the 20th century several large mining concessions in the area of the northern Ruhr area and southern Münsterland. The mining company Recklinghausen was founded, the majority of which was owned by the state. From 1905 onwards, this was headed by Hibernia AG .

In 1908 the coal mine Zweckel was consolidated . Work began in Gelsenkirchen-Scholven with the sinking of the Berlin double shaft and in Zweckel with the Potsdam double shaft .

In 1909 the hoisting machines for shafts 1 and 2 were built into the completed machine shop by Thyssen . The inside of the machine hall was painted with arcades made of pillars and arches, ribbons and ornaments, “a total work of art of high standing”.

In 1910 the two pits were renamed Scholven and Zweckel , both of which belonged to the State Mining Inspectorate 5 .

In 1910, the winding tower 2 was built and put into operation, when the shaft 2 was brought down in 1911, a brine spring was attached. After the royal mine director Bergassessor Bellmann applied for the right to use this spring, which was given the name Emmyshall, a saltwater pool, the Royal Saltwater Pool Zweckel, was built. After the spring ran dry in 1950, the bath was closed

In 1927 the state shares became the property of Hibernia AG. The mining inspection was dissolved and the Scholven and Zweckel collieries were run as individual mines for a short time. During this time, Zweckel mined around 600,000 tons of coal annually.

In 1928 the Zweckel colliery was merged with Scholven in terms of conveyor technology and from 1929 it was operated as the outer shaft of the Scholven colliery .

Between 1944 and 1951, Scholven took over the production because of war damage there.

In 1963 hard coal production was stopped, but ventilation and dewatering were maintained for neighboring mines.

In 1988, the plant was used as an industrial monument under monument protection provided. The shafts were finally closed and backfilled in 1995. Since 1997 the machine hall of the Zweckel colliery has been a location of the Foundation for the Preservation of Industrial Monuments and History and an event location for art and culture in the city of Gladbeck, including the Ruhrtriennale .
