The Nephepeltia chalconota is one of the six species of dragonfly in the genus Nephepeltia from the subfamily Brachydiplacinae . The species was first described in 1919 by Friedrich Ris using a male from Puerto Barrios in Guatemala . The larva is still undescribed.

Construction of the Imago

The approximately 17 millimeter long abdomen of the males is black and has greenish-yellow markings. There is a small, lateral spot on the second segment. The third segment has a larger patch that extends to the transverse edge. The spot size decreases on segments four to six so that the sixth segment is entirely black. There is another stain on the seventh segment. In this case he is on his back. In the area of ​​the second and third segments, the abdomen is also widened laterally and dorsoventrally. Segments seven to nine are also widened. The abdominal appendages are slimmer at the top than at the bottom. The chest ( thorax ) is of a metallic, dark green-blue color and has three narrow, greenish bands on the sides. While the lower lip, with a faint dark line in the middle, the upper lip and face are whitish, the forehead on the upper side and the parietal bladder are metallic blue. The hind wings are about 18 millimeters long. The wing mark ( pterostigma ) measures 1.5 millimeters.
