The German Cookbook Museum was opened on October 2nd, 1988 in Dortmund's Westfalenpark . The focus of the museum was Henriette Davidis , who lived in Dortmund from 1856 to 1876. At the beginning of 2011 the location was given up, a new opening in the Dortmund city center with a new concept was postponed several times and is currently planned for 2018 [out of date] . The museum wanted to use the exhibited doll kitchens , stoves and cooking utensils as well as the cookbook collection , social life and kitchen technology, social differences and table culturemake it tangible. Starting from this, the larger life contexts, the image of the family and the understanding of women in the 19th century and the effects up to today's social conventions should be traced. The planned new concept will be supplemented and expanded to include other topics such as "healthy nutrition".

It is expressly not intended to be a show of valuable first editions and bibliophile treasures .

Another cookbook collection from the 19th and 20th centuries is housed in the Henriette Davidis Museum in Wetter-Wengern .
